Our New Reprint Policy (June, 2011)
Our site contain several hundred articles by Robert Bacal, including book excerpts from his best sellers. Please read this carefully before contacting us about reprint rights.
PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR ARTICLES WRITTEN BY THIRD PARTIES, YOU MUST CONTACT THEM FOR PERMISSION.
Reprintable Articles By Robert Bacal
As of June, 2011, we have made massive changes to our reprint policies that we believe will benefit all our readers. Here's what you can and cannot do with our material. It's a little long, but it's really not complicated.
As of today (June 1, 2011) we will allow broad, FREE sharing of our articles, but you MUST understand the restrictions.
The Basics
1) You may NOT reprint any of our material on the open Internet. By reprinting illegally, you devalue our content, which means that it takes traffic away from our sites, and THAT means that we will stop creating free content. Ok?
The "open Internet" means blogs, discussion boards, web sites, or anywhere that is accessible to the general public whether it requires registration or not. All not allowed.
2) You MAY send our articles through email, to colleagues, peers, etc, provided you keep the copyright notice on the bottom of each article AND you mention the source and author, http://work911.com and Robert Bacal. You may not broadcast this to lists of more than 20 people.
3) You may link to our articles, and use up to 100 words from the article along with the link (give or take), just use your head. Links must be live, credit must be given. Links can be anywhere, blogs, Facebook, Twitter.
We're nice. Mostly. We want people to share, but don't do something that might drive us out of business, because if our material IS abused, we'll put it all on a pay to view basis.
For Intranets
Intranets are sites not available to the general public and are meant for use by internal employees.
1) You MAY publish our articles in their entirety on corporate intranets, provided you include the credit box at the bottom of each article, and/or have a live link to http://work911.com and give credit to Robert Bacal. Simple. Easy-Peasy.
We like to know people are benefiting from our work so optionally, you can let us know you are using the articles. If you feel guilty, contact us and you can make a donation for the articles.
Important: We determine whether your use on Intranets is legal by searching Google. If your site is indexed in Google, and we find you have used articles of ours and find them indexed on YOUR site, we WILL take appropriate action. (We have, and we've billed and recieved over $1,000 already from copyright infringers, not to mention getting them removed/banned from search engines, etc.
In Print
You CAN reprint a reasonable number of our articles (let's say two at a time) in any printed on paper publication that DOES not make a profit from the sale of the document, or from advertising.
Corporate newsletters are fine. Training handouts are fine, but please again, be reasonable. If you are doing a course and want to hand out two of our articles, or include them in the course materials, go for it. More than two? Nope. If you want to use more than two, contact us, because we will sell you a licence at minimal cost.
If you are BusinessWeek and want to print these articles, just pay me, and we're good.
If you want to use our articles in a book, you need to contact us for permission (publishers will require that anyway), and depending on the context, we'll let you know whether we'll provide free permission or whether you will require a paid licence. We support legitimate charitable foundations, and research associations, and we're glad to help.
And, Out of Courtesy, We'd Like...
..you to help us continue to provide all this free material on the Internet, but there's no obligation.
You can help us out by:
Retweeting, Liking, etc on Twitter, and Facebook, and by posting links to our articles on LinkedIn, or any other social type places, including your own blogs. Remember LINKS are always good.
