What Is Involved In Planning (strategic or other) a Website or Internet Business Presence?
If you want to run your website, or Internet business presence as a business (compared to as a hobby, or get rich quick scheme), you'll be pretty amazed at what is actually involved in planning for a website or Internet presence.
The obvious part of planning for Internet business has to do with the actual site layout, hosting arrangement, technical aspects, and so on. Most webmasters have a reasonable shot at those things and have at least some awareness of their importance. That's the practical getting a website online part of planning.
But getting a website online doesn't mean you have a web based business, or have even a minimal shot at succeeding with a website. Business strategy will determine whether you succeed or not, provided you have or can procure the technical and writing skills needed to create a sustainable site.
It's very much a process like one would undertake for any small business. You have to do some analysis, define a business model (where your revenue will come from), define a demographic, define a topic niche, identify what skills, knowledge and abilities you need to make it work, and we haven't even started talking about anything related to the nuts and bolts of creating the site, developing content and material to put on the site, or other technical options.
