Your Writer's Voice Is What Distinguishes YOU From Other Writers
Finding your voice is part of the process of maturing as an author. It takes time. And, writing writing, writing
Your writer's voice is your unique writing style, approach, and it gives the reader a sense of YOU, as a person, and as a writer. Think of your favorite author, and how it's so easy to identify something he or she wrote, even if you don't know it's that author. Voice is how readers feel your passion, your commitment, everything that helps them connect with you, and feel they know you.
It's hard to find a voice because it has to come from within. And if you don't write for a long time, you may have to shake off the writer's ring rust so your voice can re-emerge.
With my current book project, I found that the first 5,000 words, perhaps more are lacking the voice, but the more I write, the clearer the voice comes out. I'll have to rewrite those 5,000 words eventually...stuff happens.
Voice separates YOUR book from others. So it's important to let the voice come through. It's you, after all.
